ABSTRACT

Results of filtration surgery, as a means of treating aphakic glaucoma secondary to presence of vitreous in anterior chamber, were improved when vitrectomy was combined with it. A thorough anterior vitrectomy was possible by using an anterior chamber maintained and consequently an 80% success rate could be achieved. Filtration was sited to either side of previous cataract section. Visual results were good, as 47% of cases could enjoy better vision, compared to 20% of cases who had worsening of their preoperative vision

ABSTRACT

Rodenstock Retinometer was used to test retinal visual acuity [RVA] in three subject groups, normal, cataractous and those with fundus lesions. Snellen visual acuity [SVA] was similarly measured and compared with RVA. The quality of stimuli was changed by imitating conditions of ametropia, media opacity or stimulus eccentricity. Such maneuvers caused more reduction of SVA than RVA. Stimulus eccentricity had the most marked effect. This test could not provide definite clues to presence or absence of fundus lesions behind cataractous lenses and it could not be used for prediction of post- operative SVA. This failure was attributed to nonstandardization of retinal stimulation as regard quality of the stimulus and the area tested, both being altered by the non constant variable of site and density of lens opacity

ABSTRACT

Humphrey field analyzer [programs central 30-2 and nasal step] was used to test a group of 50 glaucomatous eyes, and another group of 50 normal eyes. Findings were classified as glaucoma specific, or non- specific, or no changes in either the central fields. Glaucoma specific changes were present in the central field of 19 cases, compared with 17 cases in which such changes were present in the peripheral field. Five cases had peripheral affection only, while 7 had only central changes. These findings indicated that both central and peripheral changes were of about equal importance for early diagnosis of glaucoma
